TerraTrees plugin is the ultimate solution for managing vegetation in your scene inside Unity3D.

TerraTrees comes with a new technology called “Intelligent Trees” which can analyze your Satellite Image and decide where to put vegetation based on image’s pixels. This will quickly lead us to have a scene with any kinds of vegetation you wish to have on terrain.
The first thing comes into your mind is that how intelligent is the system! This is a fast and an intelligent but not a complete and errorless way of doing vegetation on terrain, Thus it usually needs a little editing in the end to add or remove existing trees if placement was wrong in some areas.
But whether your terrain is created with GIS Data or manually, there is still another option which is more accurate in the terms of placement if you have your Tree-Map/Vegetation-Map ready. This mode is called “Mapping Trees” mode. You just need to drop your prepared map instead of the Satellite Image in its field and vegetation will take place exactly on the defined areas in the map.
    • A Vegetation-Map is an ordinary image with the same size of your terrain which is created using your image editing software or downloaded. This image contains 2 or more colors to represent which areas on terrain, has to be filled with vegetation. These colors then can be picked by Color Picker in TerraTrees to use them as areas for vegetation placement.

First thing you need to do is to select 3d model(s) of trees or any kinds of vegetation and add them to your Terrain System by TerraTrees or Unity’s Terrain Trees Menu. Then, you can choose between “Intelligent Trees” mode and “Mapping Trees” mode if you have your Vegetation-Map readied for you. Play with the options and mix them together to achieve the most realistic landscapes of vegetation.
    • Intelligent Trees: No need for Vegetation Maps, TerraTrees will use your Satellite Image as the map to detect vegetation areas based on an automatic process.
    • Mapping Trees: You need your Vegetation Map whether created by you yourself in your Image Editing Programs or got them by available online/offline resources which produce these maps. Then select Color Picker to assign vegetation areas.
    • Normal Trees: No Images or Maps required at all. It’s just an option if you want your vegetation to take place on the entire terrain.

When you’ve set up everything as desired, just press the button “PLACE TREES” and your terrain will be filled with vegetation in a way you wished. The whole progress time is based on total number of trees for the placement. However this is a fast process that can place thousands of trees just in seconds, but you can still cancel the progress at any time during the placement.
